OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The depth of Lebanon Valley's men's tennis team was on full display in the team's narrow 5-4 victory at Stevenson in the semifinal round of the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, May 2.
With the victory, the Flying Dutchmen (11-7) avenged a loss to the Mustangs (13-6) earlier this season and earned a berth in their second consecutive MAC Commonwealth Championship Match.
LVC came away with a pair of valuable victories in doubles play, beginning with
Reed Morris and
Elliott Kleckner defeating SU's Worden Ly and Ray McDermott 8-5 in the No. 1 outing.
Luke Senft and
Ben Hinkley also earned an 8-5 win, this time over Andrew Ryan and Richie Abruscato in the No. 3 contest.
Jordan Heavel battled to a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Ly in the No. 3 singles pairing, while Senft and Hinkley had to go the distance in earning three-set wins in the No. 4 and No. 6 matches, respectively. Senft sandwiched a pair of 6-4 match results around a 1-6 defeat against Ryan, while Hinkley shook off a 6-7 opening-set loss to Abruscato before taking the contest with back-to-back 6-4 wins, sealing the overall victory for the Dutchmen and sending the team back to the conference title match.
There's one last outing in store for LVC, as the Dutchmen will take on top-seeded Messiah in a rematch of last spring's MAC Commonwealth Championship Match on Saturday afternoon, May 5. The winner earns an automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
