OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lebanon Valley's women's tennis team secured a postseason berth in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament thanks to a 7-2 victory at conference foe Stevenson on Saturday afternoon, April 21.
The Flying Dutchmen (9-6, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth) jumped out to the early advantage by taking two of three from the Mustangs (7-9, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth) in doubles play.
Sammy Bost and
Megan Williams rolled to an 8-2 victory in the No. 2 pairing,
Elise Hanks-Witaszek and
Emily Wilczek outlasted their Stevenson counterparts 8-6 in the No. 3 contest.
The momentum carried over to singles action for LVC, with
Melanie Haas defeating Kirstyn Davidson 7-5, 6-4 in the second matchup,
Sammy Bost making quick work of Kelsi Mentzer with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the three spot,
Elizabeth Drda coming from behind in a 5-7, 6-2, 10-0 victory in the No. 4 outing,
Megan Williams handling Christina Endy 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth slot, and
Meridyth Sanders topping Nina Bretz by a 6-1, 6-0 margin in the No. 6 matchup.
With the victory, LVC clinched the playoff tiebreaker over Stevenson and wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tourney. The Dutchmen will look to put a bow on the regular when they host Albright at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, April 28.
