READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's women's tennis team stayed hot by winning its third match in four days in convincing fashion thanks to an 8-1 victory over MAC Commonwealth foe Alvernia on Saturday afternoon, April 14.
The Flying Dutchmen (7-6, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) set the tone in the early going by sweeping doubles play. LVC's top team of
Marla Scacchitti and
Melanie Haas emerged with a 9-8 victory after a hard-fought battle with Cassandra Noray and Amanda Phillips.
Sammy Bost and
Megan Williams had an easier time with Leah Kemper and Alivia Lopez in the No. 2 match, coming away with an 8-2 win, while
Elise Hanks-Witaszek and
Emily Wilczek made quick work of Morganne Blazejak and Maria Figurelli thanks to an 8-0 sweep in the third outing.
LVC's depth proved too much for the Golden Wolves (1-9, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) to deal with in singles play, as five Dutchmen clinched solo victories. Scacchitti earned a 7-6, 6-3 win over Noray in the top match and Bost handled Lopez 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 contest.
Elizabeth Drda went 6-1, 6-1 over Kemper in the four spot,
Meridyth Sanders took a 6-0, 6-2 decision from Figurelli in the fifth outing, and
Zoe Birch took advantage of her opportunity in the sixth spot by winning 6-2, 6-1 against Blazejak.
The Dutchmen will look to keep things rolling when they return to the friendly confines of the Shankroff Tennis Center for another conference match against Arcadia on Tuesday afternoon.
