How It Happened
Lebanon Valley busted open a close game thanks to a seven-run third stanza before ending the contest early in a 10-1, five-inning victory over Albright in the opening game of a conference doubleheader at the LVC Softball Park on Saturday afternoon, April 14.
With the Flying Dutchmen (12-9, 7-4 MAC Commonwealth) trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third,
Kristi Langhans got things rolling with a single through the left side and
Natalya Sizdahkhani followed it up with a base knock of her own.
Cheyanne Brown put her team ahead with a double to right center field that cleared the bases on at-bat later.
Jen Kaufman kept things going with a walk and
Annie McClain laid down a perfectly-placed bunt near the third base line to load them up for
Savannah Toth. The clean-up hitter did her job when she crushed a double deep to center field, driving in all three runners to make it 5-1.
Mackenzie Hasenauer pinch ran for Toth and
Tianna Yanoscak promptly brought her across with a single up the middle before Langhans finished off the scoring in the frame by plating Yanoscak with a two-out double over the Albright center fielder's head.
LVC's
Maddie Abbot used back-to-back strikeouts and a ground ball to quietly retire the Lions (10-9, 4-5 MAC Commonwealth) in the top of the fourth before her offense added to the advantage in the bottom half.
Brown and Kaufman led things off with back-to-back singles before McClain launched a ball off the left field fence to score Brown. Toth stayed hot with her second double of the game; an extra-base hit that drove in both Kaufman and McClain to make it 10-1.
Albright showed some life in the fifth when the team loaded the bases but reliever
Sarah Musselman worked out of trouble and got the final batter to ground out to first base to end the game.
