How It Happened
FREDERICK, Md. –
Matt Torrence scored a hat trick for Lebanon Valley to lead the Dutchmen to a 8-6 conference victory over Hood College on Wednesday night. LVC jumped to 7-5, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth, while the Blazers fell to 6-4, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth.
Hood took control momentarily in the first quarter when Bentley LeBarron netted an unassisted goal at 7:37, but LVC quickly tied things back up when Torrence scored at 6:15 of the first from
Max Warmingham to complete the scoring of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Blazers scored back-to-back unassisted goals at 8:52 and 3:55 to go up 3-1, however the Dutchmen answered when
Alex Bushong and Torrence scored at 3:35 and with 18 seconds left, respectively, to tie things up at 3-3 heading into halftime.
LVC outscored Hood 2-0 in what turned out to be a critical third quarter. Just 23 seconds in to action in the third,
Evan Crawford scored off a feed from Bushong to put the Dutchmen up 4-3. Then, with 2:01 left in the period,
Kevin Beaver got in on the action and found the back of the net to make it 5-3 in favor of LVC heading into the fourth quarter.
Early on in the fourth, at 12:56,
Mason Hoff netted a man-up goal from Beaver to extend the Dutchmen's advantage to 6-3. The Blazers then came to within a goal thanks to back-to-back tallies at 11:45 and 9:33, but at 7:52, Beaver scored another goal on the man-advantage for LVC to put the Dutchmen back up by two at 7-5. LeBarron made it a one-goal game with 4:17 to go, but Torrence iced the game and completed the hat trick when he scored with 27 seconds remaining to give LVC the eventual 8-6 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Torrence finished with three goals on four shots and he added a ground ball.
- Beaver netted a pair of goals and added an assist.
- Bushong had a goal and an assist on four shots.

Cam Epple made 12 saves between the pipes to earn the victory for LVC.
