How It Happened
Lebanon Valley opened its 2018 campaign with a thrilling, 4-3 walk-off victory over Illinois College in eight innings in Kissimmee, Fla. On Monday afternoon, March 5.

The contest that began as a pitchers' duel morphed into a crazy sprint to the finish in the final two innings. After leading by one run since the fourth frame, the Flying Dutchmen (1-0) saw their advantage evaporate when Jackie Reilly hit a one-out homer to tie things up in the top of the seventh.

The Lady Blues (0-3) scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the eighth to grab the lead for the first time all day but LVC responded with three unearned tallies in the bottom of the stanza to pick up the win on Opening Day.

After advancing to third base via Sarah Musselman's sacrifice bunt, Kristi Langhans scored on a throwing error by the IC right fielder to cut the deficit to 3-2. With two away and Musselman and Annie McClain in scoring position, Savannah Toth put the ball in play. When the shortstop mishandled the ball, both runners crossed the plate, giving LVC the extra-inning victory.

Lebanon Valley scored the game's first run when Lexi Windsor's RBI bunt single plated McClain from third base after she led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a double down the left field line.

Inside the Circle
- Lexi Windsor got the start and the win for LVC after going seven innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits.
- Maddie Abbot made a relief appearance midway through the contest and worked out the Dutchmen out of a jam. She got the three outs without allowing a hit.
- Jess Feig took the loss for the Lady Blues despite not surrendering an earned run. Four runners scored during her 5.2 innings of work.

Bluffton (1-3) responded in the bottom of the stanza, however, and after using a sacrifice fly early in the frame to tie the game, took advantage of an LVC error and scored a pair of unearned runs with two away.

Lebanon Valley cut the deficit in half when Sam Weaver scored from third base on a passed ball after swiping a bag earlier in the stanza but the Beavers tacked on another run thanks to a homer that led off the bottom of the third.

The Dutchmen again drew to within one run when Kaufman's RBI groundout was enough to plate Cheyanne Brown from third in the top of the fifth but that's all the scoring LVC was able to muster on the night.

Bluffton added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and LVC went quietly in the top of the final frame.
