How It Happened
Lebanon Valley dropped an 8-4 decision to Lycoming in the team's MAC Commonwealth opener at Arnold Field on Thursday afternoon, March 29.
Kevin Beaver was LVC's high-point man with a pair of goals and an assist, while
Josh Croyle also added two scores.
Coleman Wagner led the way on defense and caused a game-high five turnovers.
Eli Hudson recorded three caused turnovers of his own and
Blake Weaver scooped up a team-best four ground balls.
The Flying Dutchmen (5-4) hung tough with Lyco (5-3) through the first quarter. After falling behind early, the home team drew even when Croyle finished off a pass from Beaver with 5:39 remaining in the opening period. The Warriors reclaimed the lead with a late goal but LVC was within striking distance heading into the second 15 minutes of action.
After nine scoreless minutes, Lycoming's offense came roaring to life to the tune of four consecutive goals in the final six minutes of the first half.
Trailing as much as 7-1 after the break, the Dutchmen made a push as the third quarter wound down. Croyle found twine for the second time off an assist from
Alex Bushong at the 6:03 mark and Beaver made a nice move to create space before firing home his first marker of the game with 25 seconds left in the period.
LVC cut the deficit to 7-4 when Beaver went high to score his second goal of the afternoon early in the fourth quarter but a key stretch that saw the Dutchmen control the ball in the Lyco zone for nearly four minutes midway through the final period saw Lebanon Valley come away empty handed.
The Warriors put things out of reach for good with their final goal of the contest with less than two minutes to play.
