How It Happened
Lebanon Valley used some late-game heroics to emerge victorious in the team's first MAC Commonwealth outing of the spring. The Flying Dutchmen (5-4, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning of a 4-3 victory over Arcadia in the opening contest of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, March 18.
With the game tied in the top of the seventh, LVC used a lead-off double from
Annie McClain and a two-out, RBI single to right field from
Savannah Toth to pull ahead 4-3 heading into the final half of the last frame.
Pitcher
Maddie Abbot worked hard in sealing the victory, stranding three runners on base and striking out Hayley Friess with the bases loaded and two away in the bottom of the final inning.
The Dutchmen trailed for much of the contest and faced a 3-0 deficit heading into the top of the sixth stanza but the visitors got the bats going and used a
Jen Kaufman single, doubles by
Tianna Yanoscak and
Mackenzie Hasenauer, and an Arcadia error to plate three runs and tie the score.
The Knights (3-8, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board in the bottom of the first and tacked on two unearned runs in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead midway through the game.
