How It Happened
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lebanon Valley was dropped by Stevenson 80-60 in the MAC Commonwealth Play-In Game on Monday night. The Dutchmen fell to 14-12, while the Mustangs improved to 16-10 and will travel to take on the No. 1-seed Messiah on Wednesday night in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal round.
In the early going, the game was tight with the score knotted at 6-6 with 5:26 left in the first. Stevenson proceeded to end the first quarter on a critical 17-4 run to go up 23-10 heading into the second quarter.
In the second, LVC stayed within striking distance and got back-to-back free throws from
Emily Mealey, followed by a jumper by
Veronica Venezia to cut the Mustangs' advantage to 13 at 27-14 midway through the period. For the remainder of the quarter, however, Stevenson's defense didn't let the Dutchmen get any closer, and the Mustangs later extended their lead to 37-20 going into halftime.
The third quarter was back-and-forth, and at 6:48, a good free throw from
Anne Lehr capped a 12-5 run by LVC to bring the Dutchmen back to within 12 at 44-32. Stevenson maintained its double-digit lead throughout the rest of the third, but the Mustangs were up by just 13 at 59-46 at the end of the period. In the final quarter, LVC wasn't able to dig itself out of its double-digit hole and fell by an 80-60 score.
Inside the Numbers

Becky Evans and Mealey paced the offense with 14 points apiece. Mealey brought down 13 rebounds to pick up the double-double, and Evans dished out a team-high six assists.
 - Mealey went 6-for-8 from the charitry stripe.
 - Lehr scored 10 points and added four assists and a pair of steals for the Dutchmen.

Caroline Scarff and
Jen Kaufman chipped in seven points apiece.
 - For Stevenson, Jonyae Curry and Olivia Coleman each registered 13 points and Denia Campbell scored 12 points off the bench.
 - The Mustangs held the edge in total rebounds at 47-36.
 - Stevenson shot 44-percent from the field and LVC shot 35-percent.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen have put in a bid for the 2018 Division III ECAC Championship, which is set to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
