How It Happened
MADISON, N.J. – A late field goal from FDU-Florham proved to be the difference as Lebanon Valley was clipped 24-23 by the Devils on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) football action. The Dutchmen dropped to 0-8, 0-6 MAC, while Florham jumped to 5-3, 3-3 MAC.

After the Devils scored a touchdown in the third quarter to break the 14-14 tie, things got interesting in the fourth and final quarter. Just 45 seconds into the fourth, Steve Salerno rushed 12 yards for the touchdown that evened the score yet again, this time at 21-21. On FDU's ensuing drive, LVC was able to get a safety after a Devils' miscue to take a 23-21 advantage. Later, FDU started a drive at 9:32 and drove several yards down the field, but the Dutchmen were able to hold the Devils to a 28-yard field goal, so FDU went ahead 24-23 but LVC still had plenty of time left to mount a comeback.

After completing a short pass to Fink for two yards to start the drive, the Dutchmen's offense stalled out and three consecutive incomplete passes were thrown. After LVC turned it over on downs with 2:30 left in the game, the Devils achieved a first down and ran out the clock, resulting in LVC's narrow defeat.

LVC started the game off strong when it recovered Adam Domovich's punt that was fumbled by Josh Rainey. Alex Lawrence recovered it at FDU's 11-yard line, setting the Dutchmen up for terrific field position. Five plays later, with LVC on the one-yard line, Ryan Fink rushed it home and Nick Bentz's kick was good to give the Dutchmen the early 7-0 advantage. Later in the first, the Devils took the ball from their own 24-yard line all the way to LVC's endzone in an 11-play drive, which was capped by Alnazir Blackman's 14-yard rushing touchdown that tied the contest at 7-7.

Then, in the second quarter, FDU used yet another long drive that the Devils were able to eventually cash in on with Robert Blakely's eight-yard rushing TD that put FDU up 14-7. After the Devils forced a turnover on LVC's ensuing possession, the Dutchmen returned the favor when Jagger Green's pass was intercepted and returned 50 yards for a touchdown by Tyler Gerhart to even the score at 14-14 in thrilling fashion.
