Last Year Against FDU-Florham
It wasn't always pretty, but it was the type of grind-it-out victory LVC needed to get back to the .500 mark in a 24-14 win over the Devils at Arnold Field back on Sept. 23, 2017. Lebanon Valley's second drive of the afternoon ended in points when running back Paxson Hayes burst through the middle of the line and into the end zone from seven yards out to cap a nine-play, 61-yard drive that gave the Dutchmen a 7-0 lead following a Marcus Brown extra point with 2:55 left in the first quarter. LVC rushed seven times for 50 yards during the series. The momentum shifted when safety Zachary Adams was penalized for targeting, a call that was later overturned, midway through the second quarter. FDU set up 1st-and-goal at the Dutchmen four-yard line and was again aided by a penalty when LVC was whistled for an iffy facemask call on an apparent third-down stop. A false start moved the Devils back to the nine-yard line but another Lebanon Valley penalty, this time an illegal-hands-to-the-face call, set up Florham for Green's four-yard touchdown run on the next play. A bad snap, however, forced kicker Nick Maciejewski to abandon the extra-point kick and try to run it in for two but linebacker Tom Gallagher dumped him for a loss on the play. A fumble two plays into LVC's ensuing drive looked to be disastrous as it set up the visitors at Lebanon Valley's 19-yard line. The Devils moved the ball to the two-yard line and looked poised to take the lead but cornerback Nick Tucker made an outstanding play to tip a Green pass away from FDU standout wide receiver Malik Pressley on 4th-and-goal, preserving the slim 7-6 advantage heading into the break. The Dutchmen opened the second half with a 10-play, 51-yard march to paydirt that ended when Hayes plowed across the goal line from two yards out with 9:34 remaining in the third quarter. Running back Kelvin Nieves saw his first extended action on the drive, rushing four times for 14 yards to set up LVC in plus territory. Florham responded on their next possession, however, using a quick-tempo approach to put the Dutchmen back on their heels. The Devils needed just four plays to reach the end zone, as running Steve Iannone broke free for a 30-yard score. Green avoided pressure and scrambled before finding wideout Mike Panzarino in the back of the end zone to complete the two-point conversion and tie the game with 8:22 left in the third quarter. LVC responded with another long scoring drive, this time capped by Brown's 32-yard field goal late in the third quarter. The Dutchmen were aided by a 37-yard kickoff return by Jeremy De La Cruz that set them up near midfield. Lebanon Valley shut down the Devils on their first possession of the fourth quarter, with safety Cale Bruso breaking up a Green pass on second down and defensive end Guy Zimmerman's pressure forcing Green to get rid of the ball out of bounds on third down. The Dutchmen started with great field position on their next drive after a head's up fair catch by Adams gave them the ball back at the FDU 37-yard line. LVC was aided by a Devil's pass interference call and quarterback Tyler Sterner's shovel pass to Ryan Fink was a perfect call that led to a 26-yard touchdown with 11:28 left to play. The Devils put together a solid drive on the ensuing possession and moved the ball to the edge of the red zone before a holding penalty put them behind the chains. After defensive linemen Adam Wagaman and Ryan Johnson forced Green into incomplete passes, linebacker Tim Schumacherput an exclamation point on the game when he picked off Green's fourth-down pass at the five-yard line midway through the fourth quarter.

Last Time Out
Lebanon Valley dropped a 52-7 decision to No. 21 Delaware Valley this past Saturday afternoon in the Dutchmen's annual Pink Game. The game started off in quite the interesting way, as the Dutchmen's Nick Bentz opening kickoff was an on-sides kick, and it was Bentz who recovered it to give LVC the ball at its own 46. On the ensuing play, Kody Kegarise tossed a 42-yard pass that was caught by Zeke Wassell to give the Dutchmen a first down at DelVal's 12-yard line. After three consecutive rushes for loss, however, LVC's 30-yard field goal attempt was pushed right, and the Aggies began their first drive of the contest. DVU went 79 yards down the field in 4:53, but on fourth down, Dashawn Darden rushed for two yards but was stopped short on fourth and goal and turned the ball over to LVC on downs. Later in the first, Darden finally broke through with a nine-yard touchdown run with 3:32 remaining in the first to give the Aggies a 7-0 advantage after the point-after attempt was good. Then, just three seconds into the second quarter, Shaveiz Stewart caught a 16-yard pass from Darden to cap a four-play, 80-yard drive for DVU to put it up 14-0. After the Dutchmen were unable to push points across the board, DelVal's Mario Nigro responded with a 14-yard run to cap a 65-yard drive for the Aggies. With four seconds remaining in the half, Darden tossed his second TD of the season with a 32-yard pass to John Graham, and DVU went into second-half action with a 28-0 lead. The Dutchmen finally lit the scoreboard with 9:40 left in the third when Kegarise delivered a pass to his favorite target of the day, Wassell, for 16 yards for the touchdown. The long pass ended LVC's impressive 10-play, 80-yard drive that last 5:18. Unfortunately, that's all the offense that the Dutchmen could muster, as the Middle Atlantic Conference's (MAC) top scoring defense took over from there and didn't allow LVC to attempt a comeback bid. DelVal added three more TD's and a field goal and went on to win 52-7.

Previewing with Coach Buehler
Head Coach Joe Buehler '89 sat down to discuss last week's game and looked ahead to FDU-Florham on Saturday.

Special Teams Impresses
Lebanon Valley continues to lead the MAC in net average for kickoffs at 39.7 percent. Tyeair Diggs ranks fifth in the conference in average kick-return yards at 21.8, while Adam Domovich's punt average of 38.2 yards is good for sixth.

Noting LVC's Offense
Last week, the Dutchmen's offense showed signs of improvement, specifically in the passing attack. Kody Kegarise went 12-for-25 for 228 yards through the air against the MAC's top defense. Zeke Wassell caught a team-best four catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. Kegarise's 51.3 rushing yards per contest ranks 13th in the conference.

Noting LVC's Defense
Against the Aggies last week, Anthony Jenkins led the way with 11 tackles, while Brandon Brubaker added six. Tyler Gerhart, Zachary Adams, Trent Donlan, and Austin Maguire chipped in four tackles apiece. Adams has a total of 48 tackles so far in 2018, the 18th-best mark in the MAC.

Scouting FDU-Florham
The Devils won their first three games of the season, but have gone 1-3 in their last four contests. Lebanon Valley's defense will face a tough test on Saturday, having to try to limit FDU-Florham QB Jagger Green, who is second in the conference with 288.4 passing yards per game. He's first in the conference in passing touchdowns (23) and completion percentage (65.8). The Dutchmen's offense will also need to keep an eye on an FDU-Florham, player, Isaiah Turner, who is tops in the MAC with eight sacks and second with 91 tackles.

Who's Next?
LVC heads to Reading on Saturday, Nov. 3 for a 1 p.m. matchup against Alvernia.
