Lebanon Valley def. Lycoming 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-19)
How It Happened
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team locked up a spot in next week's MAC Commonwealth Tournament thanks to a 3-0 victory over Lycoming on Tuesday night. The Dutchmen jumped to 15-10, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth, while the Warriors fell to 13-17, 3-5 MAC Commonwealth.
Hoping to get off to a good start, LVC did just that as the Dutchmen began the opening set on a 7-2 run. Later, Lyco came to within three at 8-5, but
Jess Attieh responded with a kill, followed by a Warriors' attack error and then a service ace from Attieh to put the Dutchmen back up by six at 11-5. Then, with LVC up 19-12, Lyco went on a 5-0 spurt to come to within two at 19-17, but after a timeout,
Reina Eckman registered a kill and
Reily Shelly followed it up with a service ace and the Warriors never got any closer, resulting in a 25-19 first-set win.
The Dutchmen got off to a hot start in the second, beginning the set by scoring the first six points. LVC continued to extend its lead and eventually opened up a 15-3 advantage. Throughout the remainder of the set, Lyco never threatened and Eckman finished off the Warriors with a kill to clinch the set at 25-13.
The third set featured back-and-forth action early on with the Dutchmen up 11-8. Then, with LVC still ahead at 14-12, three consecutive points from the Dutchmen extended their advantage to 17-12. Lyco didn't go away quietly and came to within two at 20-18, however LVC ended the set on a 5-0 run, including two kills from Attieh, and one by
Jensen Burnheimer and
Jayna Class, resulting in the 25-18 third-set victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Attieh led all players with 15 kills (.355) and she added three total blocks and nine digs.
- Shelly and Class added eight kills apiece and a .583 hitting percentage. Shelly dug out 10 balls and notched three service aces.
- Burnheimer led the way in assists with 30 and chipped in eight digs.
Playoff Picture
The Dutchmen have clinched a spot in next week's MAC Commonwealth Postseason Tournament thanks to tonight's win, but their seed is still undecided. LVC and Messiah are currently tied for third place at 5-2. Stevenson (7-0) and Arcadia (6-1) have clinched the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen and Falcons meet on Thursday to decide the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament inside Sorrentino Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
