How It Happened
Lebanon Valley won its third game in a row with a 66-52 victory at conference foe Hood on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 27.
Caroline Scarff led the way with a game-high 20 points and six rebounds, while
Emily Mealey nearly picked up a double-double with 12 points and eight boards.
Anne Lehr dished out six assists and swiped six steals to go along with eight points, while
Becky Evans and
Morgan Bamberger netted eight tallies apiece.
The Flying Dutchmen (12-8, 7-4 MAC Commonwealth) emerged from a tightly-contested first quarter with a slim 14-11 advantage. Scarff and Lehr came netted four points each during the opening stanza.
LVC really turned it on in the second quarter, with the defense clamping down and holding the Blazers (6-14, 2-9 MAC Commonwealth) to just three points in the frame. Meanwhile, the visitors racked up 17 points in the second 10 minutes to increase the lead to 31-14 at the break.
Evans and Scarff combined for six points coming out of halftime to up Lebanon Valley's advantage to a game-high 19 points at the 8:08 mark but Hood put together a 19-8 run to end the quarter and cut the deficit to a more manageable eight heading into the final period.
A Bamberger 3-pointer and a
Veronica Venezia jumper pushed the lead back to double-digits before a layup by Hood's Ebony Pitt cut it to 54-46 with 5:31 remaining.
The Dutchmen thwarted any hope of a Blazers' comeback, however, when they put together a mini-run and scored nine of the game's next 10 points. A pair of free throws by
Molly Galvin with 2:52 left to play put LVC out in front by 16 and effectively sealed the victory.

- LVC shot 35.3 percent from the field and the Blazers managed a 38.9 percent shooting clip from the floor.
- The teams each converted just a pair of 3-pointers.
- Hood struggled from the foul line and finished just 50 percent from the charity stripe.

Playoff Picture
LVC's win combined with Stevenson's loss to Albright on Saturday afternoon moved the Dutchmen into sole possession of fourth place in the MAC Commonwealth standings. If the season ended today, Lebanon Valley would host the Mustangs in the conference tournament's play-in game.
