How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – In a pivotal UCHC and MAC matchup, Lebanon Valley's men's ice hockey team earned a 2-2 tie with Stevenson on Friday night. The Dutchmen stayed in the thick of both of their respective conferences and now sit at 5-7-2, 4-2-2 UCHC, 1-2-1 MAC, while the Mustangs settled for their sixth draw and the season and are now 6-6-6, 4-2-3 UCHC, 3-0-1 MAC.
Down by a 2-0 score midway through the second period,
Travis Acker gave LVC a spark when he ripped a snapshot past Stevenson's Jacob Caffrey on the power play to cut the Mustangs' lead to one at 2-1. That score held up heading into the third period until 12:44 of the third.
In the third,
Zak Sheikh smacked a shot from the point, and
Russ Armbruster, who was screening Caffrey, tipped the puck with his stick and Caffrey never saw it as it went into the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2 and eventually send it into a five-minute overtime.
After both
Tyler Perhac and Caffrey made some saves in the early stages of overtime, Stevenson's Colton McMenamin was called for interference with 1:29 remaining, giving the Dutchmen a man-advantage. In the final seconds, LVC saw a good scoring chance, but were unable to get one past Caffrey and settled for the 2-2 tie.
