F&M def. Lebanon Valley 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23)
How It Happened
LANCASTER, Pa. – Lebanon Valley suffered a 3-1 setback at the hands of Franklin & Marshall at each teams' opening match of the 2017 F&M Scramble on Friday night in non-conference volleyball action. The Dutchmen now sit at an even 3-3, while the Diplomats improved to 4-1 on the season.
In the opening set, LVC jumped out to a quick 6-3 advantage, but five fast points from F&M rapidly put the Diplomats up by one at 8-7. Later, the Dutchmen came to within three at 14-11 off an
Amber Deshong kill, however F&M responded by scoring five of the next six points to increase its lead to 19-12 and the Dips went on to take the opening set 25-16.
LVC enjoyed a solid second set, but had to earn it as the Dutchmen were down early at 7-4. Then, with F&M up 13-11, LVC rattled off four consecutive points, capped by a
Jess Attieh kill, to overtake the Dips at 14-13. The set stayed back-and-forth until when the Dutchmen were up 21-19, LVC scored the set's final four points to win it at 25-19 and even the match at 1-1.
The Dutchmen fought hard in the final two sets and kept up with F&M, but were unable to come back and fell 3-1.
Inside the Numbers
- Attieh finished with 10 kills and four digs.

Jayna Class compiled nine kills, while Deshond added seven more, plus five digs.

Jensen Burnheimer recorded 28 assists for LVC to go along with 10 digs.

Erin Koons and Deshong notched three service aces apiece.

Emily Smeltz led the way in digs for the Dutchmen with 18, while
Abbey Barnhart chipped in 12.
- For F&M, Grace Maggiore led with 12 kills on 14 attacks, while Delaney Hahn (11) and Cassie Garison (10) were also in double digits in kills.
What's Next?
The 2017 F&M Scramble concludes tomorrow when LVC takes on Penn State Altoona at 11 a.m. before battling York (Pa.) at 2:30 p.m.
