Volleyball Rolls Hood In Home Opener

How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley swept Hood 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-16) at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Tuesday night, Sept. 12. The Flying Dutchmen jumped to 6-3, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth, while the Blazers fell to 0-10, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth.

In the opening set, LVC jumped out to an 8-2 lead, capped off by a kill from by Amanda Sides from Jensen Burnheimer. Hood answered back with two kills and two service aces by Elena Zinaich. The score remained close throughout the first set but the Dutchmen took it 25-15 with kills by Jess Attieh, Amber Deshong and Nina Mentzer.

LVC started the second set scoring eight of the first nine points to take an early 8-1 advantage with Attieh contributing four kills. After Hood drew within four at 9-5, the Dutchmen rattled off six straight to take a commanding 16-5 lead. Then they cruised to a 25-11 second set victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Dutchmen had to work harder in the final set to complete the sweep. LVC found themselves tied at 6-6 and the Blazers kept it close, trailing just 19-16 late in the game. However, the Dutchmen shut the door on the Blazers, scoring the final six points to take the third set 25-16.

Inside the Numbers
- Attieh led the Dutchmen with 16 kills, followed by Lattanzi with eight. Attieh racked up an impressive .583 hitting percentage.
- Burnheimer had a match-high 37 assists, while adding six digs.
- Smeltz led in digs with 11 and Kaitlyn Reed chipped in seven.
- As a team, LVC finished with a .446 hitting percentage.

Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are next in action on Sept. 20 when they host conference foe Arcadia at 7 p.m.
