Softball Drops Two at Albright

How It Happened
Lebanon Valley struggled to get the bats going and managed just three hits in a 2-1 loss at Albright in the opening game of a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The Flying Dutchmen (17-6, 6-3 MAC Commonwealth) recorded two hits in the first three innings but failed to push anything across. The Lions (8-9, 3-4 MAC Commonwealth) struck first in the bottom of the third when they executed a double steal that allowed Corinne Garuffe to score from third base.

Albright added what proved to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth when Brianne Long's two-out, RBI single plated Jessica Rodriguez from second base.

LVC broke through in the top of the sixth stanza when Annie McClain singled down the left field line with two away, scoring Kate Whelski from second base in the process to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The home team would hold on from there, as the Dutchmen went quietly in the top of the seventh, being retired 1-2-3 to end the game.

Inside the Circle
- Maddie Abbot suffered just her second loss of the spring despite turning in a strong performance which saw her surrender just two runs on six hits to go along with her eight strikeouts in six innings of work.
- Riley Gerenda was outstanding for Albright. She earned the complete-game victory after scattering just three hits and allowing only one run, while striking out four Dutchmen.

At the Plate
- It was a rough day at the dish for LVC, as the top of the team's lineup accounted for all three hits.
- Sammy Bost, Annie McClain, and Lexi Windsor each had one single.
- Stephany Courtney and Jessica Rodriguez each went 2-3 for Albright.
- Rodriguez's double was the only extra-base hit of the game.

Around the Diamond
- Sammy Bost's NCAA record-breaking streak of consecutive stolen bases came to an end at 97 in a row.
- Stephany Courtney, Corinne Garuffe, and Kelly Cembrale each stole one base for the Lions.
- LVC committed the game's only error.

How It Happened
Lebanon Valley doubled the amount of hits that Albright managed but left nine runners on base in the team's 2-1 loss to the Lions in the second outing of a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

After two scoreless innings, the home team (9-9, 4-4 MAC Commonwealth) broke through in the bottom of the third and used three hits to plate a pair of runs and jump out to a 2-0 advantage after three frames.

Rachel Costantini's double in the top of the fourth moved Savannah Toth to third base with two away but LVC (17-7, 6-4 MAC Commonwealth) failed to get on the board. It was more of the same in the top of the fifth as Rayanne Hawk advanced to third base but the Dutchmen were unable to bring her across.

Lebanon Valley finally broke through in the top of the seventh when an Albright error allowed Kate Whelski to score from second base. Annie McClain moved into scoring position when Lexi Windsor singled with two down but a ground ball to third base ended the Dutchmen rally and sealed the sweep for the Lions.

Inside the Circle
- Lexi Windsor was strong in defeat, giving up just one earned run on five hits and four walks in six innings of work.
- Riley Gerenda earned her second complete-game win of the day despite allowing 10 hits in the nightcap.

At the Plate
- Rachel Costantini was 2-3 for the Dutchmen, with her double serving as the team's only extra-base hit.
- Sammy Bost hit a pair of singles from the leadoff spot.
- LVC got contributions from nearly every hitter, as 8-of-9 players in the lineup registered at least one hit.
- Corinne Garuffe was the only Albright hitter to have a multi-hit game.

Around the Diamond
- LVC committed two errors, leading to an unearned run that proved the difference.
- Rachel Costantini swiped the only bag of the game for the Dutchmen.
- Stephany Courtney and Jordan Chell stole one base apiece for the Lions.
- Albright committed one error in the game two.
