How It Happened
Lebanon Valley struggled to muster any offense of which to speak in the team's 2-0 shutout loss in the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader at No. 21 Kean on Thursday afternoon.
The Flying Dutchmen (22-11) managed just three hits and a walk in the contest and moved runners into scoring position on just two occasions. LVC failed to get a runner to third base in the opener.
Dana Knapp led off the bottom of the second with a double to right center and Jacqueline Riley's ensuing RBI single drove her in to put the game's first run on the board and give the Cougars (24-5) an early lead.
A lead-off walk for Caroline Ratti led to another run as she stole second before moving to third on Emily Sabo's sacrifice bunt and finally came across when Knapp singled to third base with two away.
Kate Whelski moved into scoring position for the Dutchmen in the top of the seventh when
Elaine Gross singled to center field with one out but LVC was unable to convert the base runners into tallies.
