How It Happened
Maddie Abbot shined in Lebanon Valley's 2-0 victory over DeSales in the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon.
The freshman pitcher went more than six innings before finally surrendering a hit to the visiting Bulldogs (11-18). Only six DeSales players reached base in the opener but none advanced to second base as Abbot breezed through the lineup to earn her 12th win of the spring in shutout fashion.
Savannah Toth scored the game's first run thanks to three free bases in the bottom of the second stanza. She led off with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Haley Christensen, and came across following back-to-back wild pitches.
The Flying Dutchmen (19-10) added a tally in the third when
Lexi Windsor came through with a two-out single up the middle that scored
Kayla Bolinsky from third base.
LVC moved runners into scoring position in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, respectively, but failed to push anyone across. Fortunately, Abbot and her defense were up to the challenge of preserving the shutout victory.
