How It Happened
A pair of four-run innings and another strong pitching performance by Maddie Abbot was all Lebanon Valley needed in an 8-0 shutout victory over Monmouth in the opening game of a doubleheader in Clermont, Fla. on Thursday morning.

The Flying Dutchmen (5-2) got the scoring started in the bottom of the third when Sammy Bost plated on a Fighting Scots error and Annie McClain came across on a wild pitch. Kate Whelski's two-out, RBI double drove in Rayanne Hawk and Haley Christensen to increase the lead to 4-0 after three.

Abbot allowed just one hit through the first four innings and LVC doubled its advantage in the bottom of the fifth thanks to back-to-back doubles by Savannah Toth and Lexi Windsor before a Whelski single brought Windsor across, an Alissa Robinson extra-base knock scored Whelski, and Robin Feaster plated when McClain was hit by a pitch, ending the contest early in the process.

In the top of the seventh, Sammy Bost singled and stole second base before Elaine Gross' RBI single drove her in to cut the deficit to 3-2 but LVC was unable to plate Gross and fell short of completing the sweep.
