How It Happened
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Lebanon Valley's baseball team finished up action down in Florida on Thursday, splitting with Kenyon College. The Lords edged out the Dutchmen 3-1 in the first game, but LVC took down Kenyon 6-1 in the nightcap to earn the split. The Dutchmen now sit at 6-4 overall and went 5-4 on their spring break trip, while the Lords now sit at 1-5.
In today's first game, both teams were locked at 0-0 until the top of the fourth when LVC finally broke through.
Joshua Marcelli continued his hot start to the season when he singled home Marshall Kiessling with two outs to put the Dutchmen up 1-0.
Starting pitcher
Casey Wall was cruising until the senior captain ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. Henshaw tied the game for the Lords on an RBI-single up the middle, and then von Roemer singled, chasing Wall out of the game with two runners on.
Michael Houseal relieved Wall, but Kenyon's Rosenfeld singled home Henshaw to tie the game and later, von Roemer scored on a wild pitch to put the Lords up 3-1.
In the top of the seventh, the Dutchmen made things interesting as
Colin Albright drew a walk to start the inning. After
Chase Weik and
Philip Berry's groundouts advanced Albright to second and then third,
Michael Leri ripped a pinch-hit RBI-single down the right field line to score Albright and make it a 3-2 contest.
Joshua Herring then drew another walk after a pitching change, however LVC was unable to tie the game or go ahead, resulting in the narrow 3-2 defeat.
Inside the Numbers (Game One)
- Wall went 4.1 innings giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out three.
- Kenyon's Jesse Bogacz (1-1) picked up the win after tossing 6.2 innings and surrendering two earned runs with eight strikeouts.
- Kiessling stole his team-leading fifth base of the season.

How It Happened
LVC wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the nightcap, as
Michael Puglisi crushed a double to the left field wall in the top of the first to score
Chris DeClerico for the early 1-0 lead. Later in the first, Marcelli singled home Puglisi, and
Jonathan Harned celebrated his birthday with a two-out, two-RBI single that plated Albright and Marcelli.
The Dutchmen tacked on two more in the bottom of the third when
Chase Weik singled home Marcelli, followed by a
Ross Drawbaugh RBI-single to center field, making it a 6-0 game. The Lords pick up a late run in the fifth, but
Timothy Holdredge shut down Kenyon to pick up the first win of his career.
Inside the Numbers (Game Two)
- Holdredge went six innings and allowed just four hits and no earned runs to go along with two strikeouts.

Zach Yingst went 1-2-3 in the seventh inning on the mound for LVC.
- Marcelli went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Harned totaled two RBI.
- The Dutchmen outhit the Lords 6-4 as a team.
Back to the Cold
LVC now has a six-day break and is set to host Eastern University in non-conference action next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
