How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season, as well as its first win ever against Stevenson out of eight tries when the Dutchmen took down the Mustangs 11-5 on Wednesday in LVC's conference opener. The Dutchmen jumped to 1-7, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth, while Stevenson dropped to 3-6, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth.
After the Mustangs scored the first goal of the game with 26:05 remaining, LVC went on an impressive run, scoring the final five goals of the half to take a 5-1 advantage heading into the break.
Emma Jones found the net first at 25:06, followed by a
Kirsten Bannan tally with 23:56 to go. Later, at 20:18,
Emily Federowicz scored her second of the season and
Makenzie Kelley got in on the action at 16:14 with her 11th goal of the season. Finally,
Brenna O'Neill netted her third of the year at 9:44.
The Dutchmen continued to dominate early in the second half and scored three straight, including two more from Jones and one from Kelley, to increase their advantage to 8-1 with 19:45 left in the contest. After the teams traded off goals at 17:53 and 15:07 to make it a 9-2 score, the Mustangs found the back of the net three consecutive times at 14:13, 13:23, and 10:24, cutting LVC's lead to four at 9-5. After a Dutchmen timeout, Jones netted her four goal of the game to stop the bleeding and put LVC ahead 10-6. With 51 seconds remaining, Jones put the game officially out of reach with her fifth tally of the game, giving the Dutchmen an 11-5 lead that they held on to on their way to their first win of the season.
Inside the Numbers
- Jones scored five more goals and now has 24 on the season, good for tied for sixth in the MAC.
- Kelley finished with three goals on six shots and she added three draw controls.
- Jones picked up four ground balls, caused a turnover, and controlled a draw. The junior went 3-for-4 on free position attempts.
- For Stevenson, Brady Heher and Tori Bruno scored two goals apiece.
- The Mustangs' starting goalie Mack Ferguson took the L and made 11 saves.

Hannah Oliveras picked up the first win of her young career, making seven saves, including a few big saves in the second half, to go along with a game-high five ground balls.
- LVC led in shots 26-20 and shots on goal at 22-12.
- The Mustangs committed 21 turnovers.
- The Dutchmen were solid on clears, going 15-for-16 compared to Stevenson's 11-for-19 mark.
- LVC led in ground balls 16-12.
- LVC avenged two close loses to Stevenson last year, including an 8-6 defeat in the conference semifinal back in May.
- This was Stevenson's first loss to someone other than Messiah in MAC Commonwealth action since the Mustangs joined the conference in 2013.
- The Dutchmen defense stood tall today and kept Olivia Monteiro to just one goal. Monteiro was second in the MAC with 26 goals coming into tonight's contest.
