How It Happened
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's women's lacrosse team opened up its 2017 season by dropping a 13-8 decision to Susquehanna University on Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchmen slipped to 0-1, while the Riverhawks improved to 1-0.
Susquehanna scored the game's first two goals before
Makenzie Kelley got LVC on the board when she scored a player-up goal at 22:11 of the first half to make it 2-1. After the Riverhawks scored again to make it 3-1 at 21:15, Kelley scored her second goal of the game just 12 seconds later to make the score 3-2. Susquehanna responded with three consecutive goals to increase its lead to four at 6-2 with 8:58 remaining in the first before Kelley netted her third of the game for the hat trick to stop the bleeding and make it 6-3. The Riverhawks were able to add two more before the end of the half, though, and took an 8-3 advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, the two teams traded goals and it was 10-5 with 20:26 to go, but three consecutive goals by Susquehanna put the game out of reach despite two goals from
Emma Jones and one from
Kirsten Bannan in the final four minutes of action.
Inside the Numbers
- Jones finished with four goals, all coming from the free position. She added three groundballs and three draw controls.
- Kelley scored three on four shots and controlled a team-high seven draws.

Rachel Anderson registered two caused turnovers for LVC.
- For Susquehanna, Ashley Rose Lynn, Brooke Klair, and Caroline Rabiecki all recorded a hat trick.
- In her first collegiate start between the pipes,
Hannah Oliveras made 13 saves for the Dutchmen. For the Riverhawks, Libby Dex stopped seven shots and picked up the win.
- The Riverhawks outshot the Dutchmen 35-17 and held the edge in shots on goal at 26-15.
- Susquehanna was a perfect 18-for-18 on clears, while LVC was 16-for-26.
- The Riverhawks also held the edge in ground balls (13-11), but the Dutchmen won 13 draw controls compared to Susquehanna's 10.
