How It Happened
PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – A three-goal second period powered Lebanon Valley's men's ice hockey team to a 5-2 win over Elmira on Saturday night in UCHC action. The Dutchmen improved to 3-4-1, 3-1-1 UCHC, while the Soaring Eagles dropped to 5-6-1, 3-4-1 UCHC.
Elmira scored the first period's lone goal when Spencer Carter found the back of the net from Adam Eby and Mitch Atkins, but LVC remained within scoring distance after one period of action, down just 1-0.
In the second,
Travis Acker evened the score at 1-1 just 43 seconds in off assists from Zach Balodis and
Bryan Hovanec. Four minutes later, at 4:43, Nick Ford put the Soaring Eagles back ahead by one at a 2-1 with a tally, but at 14:35,
Brett Johnson evened the score once again, this time with a power-play goal from Hovanec and
Cole Hepler. Less than two minutes later, with the Dutchmen again on the man-advantage, Hepler put LVC ahead 3-2 from
Jared Karas and Balodis, and the the Dutchmen went into the third with a 3-2 advantage.
It was all LVC in the third, as the Dutchmen played a clean period and didn't allow any goals.
Brennan Thompson scored an unassisted goal a minute in, and Acker netted his second of the game with two and a half minutes to go, as the Dutchmen went on to win their third conference game of the season by a 5-2 margin.
Inside the Numbers
 - Acker finished with a pair of goals and a +3 rating on the night, to go along with a 5-for-7 line from inside the faceoff circle.
 - Thompson and Zak Sheikh each finished with a +2 rating on the night.
 - Johnson finished with a team-high six shots on net.

Tyler Perhac picked up the win in between the pipes after making 33 saves, including 14 in the third period.
 - As a team, LVC held a 38-33 edge in faceoff wins.
