Women's Swimming Picks Up First Win of Young Season

RADNOR, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's and women's swimming opened the competitive portion of their 2017-18 schedules at Cabrini on Friday night, Nov. 3. The women came away with their first victory of the young season at 114-91, while the men's squad dropped a 97-57 decision to the Cavaliers.
 
The Flying Dutchmen opened the meet in style when the women's foursome of Kaitlyn Welch, Courtney Betsock, Erika Schell, and Leslie Hiller won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.97.
 
The women kept that momentum rolling with Sarah Wolfe's victory in the 1,000-yard free and 1-2 finishes by Julianna Currie and Katie Gingrich in the 50-yard free. Currie touched in 27.29, while Gingrich followed right behind her with a time of 27.78.
 
LVC earned another win thanks to Nicole Flohr's 1:01.20 in the 100-yard free. Currie took home the runner-up spot in the event, touching just .66 seconds after her teammate. The women capped their victory when Gingrich, Schell, Currie, and Hiller combined for a 1:47.19 win in the 200-yard free relay. The foursome of Catherine Orlando, Flohr, Casey Burke, and Samantha Ritchie finished third in the relay, touching less than 10 seconds later than their teammates.
 
On the men's side, Ian Lloyd picked up where he left off a year ago by winning a pair of events on Friday night. He won the 50-yard free by touching in 22.90 and followed it up with a victory in the 100-yard fly. The senior bested Ryan Brong, the runner-up from Cabrini, by nearly five seconds in the fly event.
 
In the 500-yard free, Chris Kurtz earned nine points for the Dutchmen when he turned in 10 laps in 5:50.34. Kurtz was also part of LVC's 200-yard free relay team that picked up 11 points by combining for a time of 1:47.11. He was joined by Gabe Dimisa, Jordan Heavel, and Andrew Martz in the event.
 
It will be short rest for Lebanon Valley as both teams will return to action on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 5. The Dutchmen host Dickinson and Wilkes at the Arnold Sports Center for the program's annual Pink Meet at 2 p.m.
