How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley held on late to deal York (Pa.) its first loss of the season by a 65-60 margin on Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action. The Dutchmen improved to 3-2, while the Spartans dropped to 3-1.
Heading into the fourth quarter, LVC held a narrow six-point advantage at 48-42, however York began the final quarter on a mini 4-0 run to come to within two of the Dutchmen at 48-46 with 8:36 remaining in the fourth. LVC responded with an
Emily Mealey layup, followed by a trey from
Morgan Bamberger, and the Dutchmen extended their lead to 53-46 with 7:44 to go. LVC maintained its lead for the rest of the quarter, but the Spartans made it close when Sam Mocniak drilled a 3-pointer with 16 ticks left on the clock to make it 63-60, but Bamberger connected on a pair of free throws with eight seconds left, and LVC held on for the 65-60 win.
In the early going of the first quarter, it was a back-and-forth affair with York ahead 7-6 with 5:10 remaining in the quarter. The highlight of the quarter came with 23 seconds to go when
Anne Lehr weaved her way through four defenders to score on a layup, and later complete the three-point play after being fouled. To see Lehr's spectacular play, check out the video below. The Dutchmen ended up out-scoring York 22-9 in the first to take a commanding lead into the second.
After LVC dominated the first quarter, York stormed back and outscored the Dutchmen 19-8 in the second quarter, but a late free throw by Mealey put LVC ahead by two at 30-28 at the break.
The third quarter was a seesaw in terms of lead changes, as the period featured several lead changes. With the score tied at 33-33 with 7:20 left, The Dutchmen went on a mini 8-4 spurt to take a 41-37 lead with 3:47 left in the third. The Spartans kept it close and got to within two, but LVC finished the third on a 7-0 run, including a 3-pointer from
Becky Evans, to take a 48-42 advantage going into the fourth.
Inside the Numbers
 - Mealey picked up her second double-double of the season, finishing with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while bringing down 13 boards.
 - Evans finished with 15 points, including three treys, and the senior picked up a season-high nine assists.
 - Bamberger was also in double-digits in points at 14.
 - Lehr chipped in eight points, while
Veronica Venezia ended with six rebounds.
 - LVC shot 39.3-percent from the floor and the Spartans shot 41.4-percent.
 - As a team, the Dutchmen outrebounded York 44-31.
 - LVC picked up 23 second-chance points and 30 points in the paint.

MAC Commonwealth action begins for the Dutchmen on Wednesday when they travel to take on Widener at 8 p.m.
