How It Happened
Lebanon Valley erased a five-run deficit en route to a 9-6, rain-shortened victory over Cabrini on Tuesday afternoon. Due to lightning in the area, game one of the doubleheader was called after six innings and the second contest was cancelled.
Trailing 6-3 entering the bottom of the fourth frame, the Flying Dutchmen (18-15) roared to life, taking advantage of a Cabrini error, a wild pitch, and walk, while using four singles and a stolen base to score five runs and take a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Sammy Bost used her speed to plate an insurance run for LVC in the sixth stanza as she led off with a bunt single, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on
Emily Johnson's sacrifice fly to right field.
The Cavaliers (21-18) jumped out to a 5-0 lead by scoring a pair of runs in the first and three more in the second inning before the Dutchmen got on the board when
Kelli Valle doubled and scored
Elaine Gross in the bottom of the second. Before the frame was out, Bost pushed Valle across with a two-out RBI single.
LVC scored its third run of the game in the third when
Jordyn Miller's sacrifice fly to center field drove in
Kim Ortiz-Marrero from third base.
Inside the Circle
-
Christina Mentzer battled through a rough start to earn her third victory of the spring. She threw 92 pitches in six innings of work, allowing six runs on 15 hits. From the third inning on however, she buckled down and surrendered just one run the rest of the way.
- Kiley Sharp got the start for Cabrini but was chased from the game in the fourth inning after allowing five runs on five hits and three walks.
- Jenna Rodriguez took the loss for the Cavaliers as four runs scored on her watch, all of which were unearned.
