How It Happened
Manhattanville broke a 3-3 tie late in the third period to edge out Lebanon Valley by a 4-3 score on Friday night at Hersheypark Arena in ECAC West men's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen slipped to 0-6-1, 0-5-0 ECACW, while the Valiants jumped to 4-3-0, 3-2-0 ECACW.
With 3:28 remaining in the third period, Manhattanville's Bryan Platt broke the 3-3 standstill with a goal off an assist from Nigel Slade that proved to be the game-winner. With less than a minute to go, head coach
Don Parsons pulled starting goalie
Joel Eisenhower to give the Dutchmen an extra skater. LVC had several chances at the end, including three blasts from the point by
Jared Karas, however the Valiants' Tyler Feaver was there to make the stop each time despite a very good effort from the Dutchmen.
Manhattanville opened up the scoring 7:20 into the first period on the power play when Adam Platt found the back of the net. LVC, however, kept the Valiants off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first to keep it a one-goal game heading into the second period.
In the second, Manhattanville scored another power play goal early in the period to go up 2-0. LVC answered 6:27 into the period when
Travis Acker got
Brett Johnson's rebound and snuck one past Feaver to bring it back to a one-goal contest at 2-1. Just over two minutes later,
Cole Hepler batted the puck out of the air for the highlight-reel goal that tied things up at 2-2 off assists from
Bryan Hovanec and
Eric Higgins. Late in the middle period with three minutes left, the Valiants' Cory Anderson put Manhattanville ahead by one again with a tally and the 3-2 score stuck heading into the final period of action.
With the Dutchmen on the power play midway through the third, Johnson tied the contest yet again off assists from
Eric Higgins and Hepler, but Manhattanville's goal in the closing minutes was the game-winner in a back-and-forth game.
Inside the Numbers
