How It Happened
In a game of two very evenly matched teams, Lebanon Valley's men's ice hockey team and Stonehill College tied at 3-3 on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Dutchmen now sit at 0-1-1 and the Skyhawks moved to 1-0-1.
Just like last night, it was LVC who lit the lamp first, as
Brett Johnson scored his first goal as a member of the Dutchmen (power-play goal) off an assist from
Bryan Hovanec to make it a 1-0 score just five minutes into the opening period. Stonehill, located in Easton, Mass., later tied it at 9:31 when Connor Collier found the back of the net off a pass from Thomas Newton.
Midway through the first with LVC on the power play again, freshman
Jared Karas scored off assists from
Brad Nolan and Johnson to put the Dutchmen back up by one at 2-1, which was the score that stood after one period of action.
Not much action occurred in the second period until Evan Jacques scored a power play goal with four and a half minutes left in the second. The game remained tied at 2-2 heading into the third period. In the third, Johnson was at it again when he notched his second of the game from Karas and
Cole Hepler with eight and a half to go in the third. It looked as though the Dutchmen were headed toward their first win of the year, but with three minutes to go, Stonehill's Connor Jewett tied it up for the Skyhawks again, sending the game into overtime.
LVC was swarming the Skyhawks in the overtime period and recorded eight shots on goal in the five-minute period, however the Dutchmen were unable to put one past a tremendous goaltender in Billy Palmer, and the game was ruled a tie after neither team was able to score.
Inside the Numbers
 -
Brenden Manquen got his first start of the year and made 31 saves for LVC. Stonehill's Palmer started for the second day in a row and stopped 45 of the Dutchmen's 48 shots.
 - LVC led in total faceoffs won at 41-35. John was 9-for-13 and Karas went 7-for-10.
 - Johnson led in shots on goal for the Dutchmen with seven and Hovanec and Hepler each tallied six.
