CARLISLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley took part in the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational at Big Spring High School on Saturday morning, Oct. 1. The unique meet offers runners the opportunity to take part in either an 8k race or a 4k event.
The Flying Dutchmen earned a runner-up finish in the long outing and a third-place finish in the short version, led by
Chad Bomgardner's individual runner-up finish in the long event, and
Nick Scullin's fourth-place finish in the short race.
"I am very pleased with what I saw today," said LVC head coach
James O'Brien '07, M'16. "It was wet and muddy on a hilly course and I feel that all of the work we have done prepared us to run strong through the conditions."
Bomgardner posted a time of 27:25.4 in the 8k meet. Only Nathan Udell, the individual champion from Dickinson, bested the junior with a time of 27:06.7.
Noah Brady (eighth, 28:31.7) and
Ibsen Powers (ninth, 28:36.7) earned top-10 finishes, while
Stephen Shelly just missed out in 11th place (29:10.6).
Harrison Kelly came home 13th,
Michael Dworzak finished 17th, and
Michael Gang was LVC's third top-20 finisher in 19th.
Nathaniel Clugston (24th place) and
Ben Tanner (25th place) were the ninth and 10th Dutchmen runners to finish in the top 25.
"We competed very well today, finishing second overall in the long race and third in the short race, said O'Brien. "Chad (Bomgardner) and Nick (Scullin) both gave us great performances up front that were complimented nicely by our team depth. Our men are beginning to piece it together and could be a formidable team heading into October."
On the short side, Scullin posted a time of 12:52.8, good enough for a top-five finish.
Kyle Munro came home 11th with a time of 13:19.7 and
Terrence Habiyaremye also earned a top-20 finish, crossing the line in 13:42.3 to take 19th.
The Dutchmen are next in action on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they take part in Oberlin's annual Inter-Regional Rumble in Oberlin, Ohio.
