How It HappenedLebanon Valley earned its first win of the 2015 season in exciting fashion by edging Rochester 3-2 by set scores of 25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 25-18, and 15-13 in the team's opener on Saturday morning before handling SUNY Geneseo 3-1 by scores of 23-25, 25-9, 25-19, and 25-13 in the team's final outing of the Cortland Red Dragon Classic.
LVC vs. RochesterThe Flying Dutchmen (1-2) gained the early advantage by winning the first set 25-19 but Rochester (2-1) responded by winning two straight by 25-21 and 25-20 decisions in the second and third sets. LVC pulled away late in the fourth set to earn a 25-18 victory before squeaking out a 15-13 win in the fifth and deciding set.
Jess Attieh led the way offensively for Lebanon Valley with 11 kills while
Amber Deshong and
Greta Weidemoyer added nine apiece.
Rachel Moltz was tops defensively as she dug out a team-high 16 balls while
Melanie Phifer and Attieh did their part with 11 digs each. Weidemoyer was strong at the net and her five assisted blocks were tops among LVC players.
Moltz excelled in the setter role as she racked up a match-best 42 assists while
Erin Koons pitched in with a team-high three service aces.
LVC vs. SUNY GeneseoAfter falling behind early in the contest, Lebanon Valley (2-2) responded with three straight set wins to defeat SUNY Geneseo (1-4) complete the sweep on day two of the Cortland Red Dragon Classic. The Dutchmen dropped the opener 23-25 before pasting Geneseo 25-9 in set two. LVC finished off the Knights with 25-19 and 25-13 victories in sets number three and four, respectively.
Attieh again led the team in kills with 14 but
Greta Weidemoyer did her part offensively with 12 kills of her own.
Allison Cable,
Melanie Phifer, and
Abbey Barnhart shined defensively with Cable and Phifer recording a match-high 16 digs and Barnhart digging out 14 balls.
Alli Quirk made it tough on Geneseo at the point of attack, assisting on four blocks. Weidemoyer and Barnhart turned away two attempts apiece with Weidemoyer adding a solo rejection.
Rachel Moltz assisted on 42 Dutchmen points and added a service ace while
Erin Koons and Weidemoyer recorded two aces each.
Notable PerfromanceAttieh – It has to go the freshman hitter after she led LVC in a number of statistical categories and earned Red Dragon Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team status thanks to her stellar weekend effort. Not bad for her first four collegiate outings.
Inside the Numbers- Attieh was the lone Lebanon Valley player named to the Cortland Red Dragon Classic All-Tournament Team.
- Rochester held the advantage in service aces over the Dutchmen 9-5 but LVC bested the Knights in blocks (14-12), assists (43-39), and digs (77-66).

Alli Quirk's .438 attack percentage against Rochester was tops among Dutchmen.
- In match number two, Lebanon Valley again lost the service aces battle (8-5) but topped the Knights in every other major statistical category including blocks (11-4), assists (46-34), and digs (67-53).
