Volleyball Cruises Past Lycoming for Fifth Straight Win

How It HappenedLebanon Valley continued its win streak and dominated Lycoming 3-0 in MAC Commonwealth volleyball action. The Dutchmen improved to 11-5, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth, while the Warriors dropped to 12-6, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth.
In the opening set, both teams kept the score close until Lycoming jumped out to a 10-7 advantage. Later, Nina Menzter evened the set at 15-15 with a kill, and then
Alli Quirk kept the set even at 20-20 with her own kill. From there, LVC scored five of the last four points, capped by another Quirk kill, to take the first set 25-21.
The middle set was dominated by the Dutchmen, as they jumped out to a 10-4 lead. The Warriors came to within five at 13-8, however they would never get any closer as LVC took the set with ease at 25-13 to take a two sets to none lead.
The Dutchmen stormed out to an healthy lead in the third as a
Rachel Moltz service as made it 8-2. Lycoming, however, went on a 7-2 run to come to within one point at 10-9. It stayed back-and-forth until it was 17-16 in favor of LVC when the Dutchmen scored five points in a row, including two Quirk kills, to go up 22-16. LVC held on and
Greta Weidemoyer ended the match in style with a kill that gave the Dutchmen a 25-19 third-set win and 3-0 victory in the match.
Inside the Numbers - Quirk paced LVC with 18 kills, while Weidemoyer finished with 11 and
Amber Deshong posted seven.
 - Moltz served four aces and
Allie Garrett and
Morgan Webb each had one.
 - Quirk totaled three blocks and Weidemoyer and
Nina Mentzer each chipped in two.
 - Moltz dished out 25 assists and Garrett was solid on defense with 14 kills with Moltz adding 10 more.
Five in a RowTonight's victory marked the fifth straight for the Dutchmen and LVC also picked up the all-important win in MAC Commonwealth action.
Who's Next?On Saturday, LVC heads to St. David's, Pa. for a MAC Crossover tri-match. At 2 p.m., the Dutchmen take on DeSales before battling the hosts, No. 10 Eastern, at 4 p.m.
