How It HappenedKelsey Heck was as clutch as they come in Lebanon Valley's 4-3 win over Arcadia in penalty strokes in the team's 2015 MAC Commonwealth opener on Saturday afternoon.
As if netting the game-tying goal with just 36 seconds remaining in regulation wasn't enough, the senior converted the third and deciding penalty stroke after a pair of overtime sessions weren't enough to break a 3-3 stalemate.
Brittany Fleisher netted LVC's first penalty stroke but Arcadia's Allie Hines answered with her conversion. The Knights grabbed a 2-1 advantage when Lauren Ransegnola scored following a
Kristen Garman miss.
Lyndee Sheaffer found the back of the net on her attempt and
Kendra Moll kept the Flying Dutchmen (4-5, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) alive with a stop of Tess Brzezynski's shot. Neither
Molly Van Leuvan nor Taylor Dalisera could put one home but Heck picked up her teammates with a conversion that put LVC in control. Moll turned away Debbie Wolfe on the ensuing try to clinch the thrilling victory.
Prior to the two scoreless overtime periods, the Knights (4-4, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) led 3-1 less than five minutes to play. Sheaffer cut the deficit in half when she converted her third goal of the year with 4:39 left to play.
The Dutchmen got the break they needed when they were awarded a penalty corner with less than a minute remaining.
Rachel Gorman put the ball in play and Heck split the posts off an assist from
Maddie Fox.
Rachel Youngs, Garman, and Fleisher hooked up for Lebanon Valley's first goal of the day in the 25th minute while Arcadia's scores came in the second, 20th, and 36th minutes, respectively.
Notable PerformancesKesley Heck and
Kendra Moll – Heck provided the clutch offense and Moll added a number of key defensive stops. No surprise here.
