Game 1Lebanon Valley never stopped chipping away but in the end, Gettysburg's offense proved too much in game one of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon as the Bullets topped the Flying Dutchmen 12-6.
Gettysburg (20-3) struck first with one run in the bottom of the first inning but
Alissa Robinson's RBI single to left field drove in
Haley Christensen to tie it up in the top of the second.
The Bullets added two more in the third before exploding for seven runs on nine hits in the fourth.
LVC (6-13) staved off an early finish by scoring twice in the fifth.
Tessa Deardorff plated thanks to a Gettysburg error and Christensen's RBI single through the right side drove in
Sammy Bost. Bost added a pair of RBI in the sixth when she tripled to left field and drove in Deardorff and
Jorey Aumiller before scoring thanks to another Bullet error, cutting the deficit to 10-6.
But the home team took advantage of a Flying Dutchmen error in the sixth to score two unearned runs and end the opener after six innings.
Game 2Kim Ortiz-Marrero hit the first home run of her career but it wasn't enough to keep Lebanon Valley from falling to Gettysburg 13-5 in game two of a doubleheader on Tuesday evening.
The Bullets (21-3) scored the game's first six runs but
Kayla Bolinsky's single to right center drove in
Jasmine Dutton to get LVC (6-14) on the board in the fifth. Before the inning was out, Ortiz-Marrero went yard and brought home Bolinsky and
Tessa Deardorff with her. With Gettysburg's lead now just 6-4, the Flying Dutchmen had new life.
The home team created some breathing room by adding a pair of runs to its tally in the bottom of the fifth but Robinson's RBI single to left field in the sixth brought in Dutton for the second time to keep the Dutchmen in it.
But the Bullets closed out their second victory of the day with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
