Game 1It took longer than expected but Lebanon Valley outlasted Lycoming in nine innings, defeating the Warriors 5-4 in game one of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon when
Jasmine Dutton singled up the middle and scored
Jordyn Miller in the top of the final frame.
The victory was LVC head coach
Stacey Hollinger's 400th of her career.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth,
Haley Neff got Lyco's Ashley Schoenstadt to groundout to second base and
Jorey Aumiller threw out Schoenstadt at first to secure the victory.
After three scoreless innings, the Flying Dutchmen (8-21, 5-8 CC) got on the board first when
Angela Harris singled to center field and scored
Emily Johnson in the top of the fourth but the home team jumped out in front with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.
Miller's double to left field plated
Tessa Deardorff and
Sammy Bost in the top of the fifth to put LVC back out in front 3-2 but again, Lycoming had an answer, using a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and two singles to tie it up in the bottom of the stanza.
The visitors appeared to be in the driver's seat when they reclaimed a one-run lead in the top of the sixth when Bost's bases-loaded walk pushed
Cheyanne Brown across but a lead-off single led to Lyco (14-13, 4-9 CC) plating the equalizer in the bottom of the seventh.
Neither team threatened in the eighth but Miller's lead-off double in the top of the ninth set up the Dutchmen's dramatic win.
Game 2Lebanon Valley's bats were on full display in the team's 13-5 victory over Lycoming in game two of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The pair of victories was the Flying Dutchmen's first league sweep of the spring.
With LVC (9-21, 6-8 CC) leading 7-5 after five innings, the Dutchmen put the game out of reach with six runs in the top of the sixth.
Sammy Bost's single to left field scored
Tessa Deardorff,
Cheyanne Brown plated on a Lyco (14-14, 4-10 CC) error,
Emily Johnson's double drove in Bost,
Jordyn Miller's two-run home run to straightaway center brought
Elaine Gross around with her, and
Jasmine Dutton's double to center field pushed
Angela Harris across.
The Dutchmen scored at least one run in every inning except the second. Bost's first inning single up the middle plated Deardorff for the first time and the visitors tacked on three in the top of the third when a Warrior error allowed Brown and Deardorff to cross the dish before Johnson's sac fly drove in Bost.
Jorey Aumiller picked up an RBI in the fourth when her single up the middle pushed
Haley Christensen across.
Angela Harris also scored on the play thanks to another Warrior error. LVC scored its seventh run of the game in the fifth when Johnson scored from third base on an errant throw by the Lycoming catcher.
The Dutchmen never trailed.
