Stevenson Holds Off W. Lax On Senior Day

How It Happened
Stevenson flipped things around in the second half and stopped a Lebanon Valley comeback to win 14-10 in a hard-fought Commonwealth Conference battle on Senior Day.

The Dutchmen (9-6, 5-2 CC) led 4-1 early after Anna Pagels scored two of her four goals and Emma Jones and Sam Boyce added markers, but a 3-0 Stevenson run tied the game before Boyce hit at the end of the half to give LVC a 5-4 lead at the break.

The second half completely flipped Stevenson's way, however, as they won the first four draw controls and scored each time to lead 8-5. Pagels finally ended the run at 25:41, but the Mustangs went on to score four of the next five goals and blow the lead to 12-7.

A three-goal spurt by LVC gave them life, however, all of them keyed by Jenny Simensky. The senior scored at 8:35, then fed Pagels' fourth a moment later before dishing it to Tori Kuntz to cut the lead to 12-10 with 4:45 to go. Stevenson, however, finished it off with two goals and held possession to kill the clock.

Notables
- It was a tale of two halves as LVC led 5-4 at the break, but the Mustangs outshot them 24-8 in the second half and 34-20 for the game. It started at the circle, where LVC led 8-2 on draw controls in the first half but Stevenson snagged 13 of 16 in the second.
- Anna Pagels continued her hot offensive play with four goals, while Jenny Simensky scored twice with two assists and Sam Boyce had two scores. Bailey Benz handed out a game-high four assists.
- Olivia Monteiro led Stevenson with four goals, and Tori Wagner had a hat trick.
- Shelby Morris did all she could with 12 saves; Leanne Bittner stopped eight for SU.
- The very physical game saw a combined 59 fouls and six cards, three for each team.
- Bailey Benz became LVC's all-time leader with her 68th career game started.
- Before the game, LVC honored seniors Bailey Benz, Morgan Heller, Anna Pagels, and Jenny Simensky. Combined, the quartet started 260 games with a record of 47-23. They've recorded 273 goals, 188 assists, 515 ground balls, and 297 caused turnovers combined in their impressive careers.

Quote of the Day
"Yes!" - senior defender Morgan Heller's answer to team manager Lyle German's post-game question of, "Will you marry me?" German posed as The Dutchman and, with some help from Heller's teammates, proposed at midfield after the game.
