How It HappenedLebanon Valley was overmatched and overrun by DeSales in the team's 9-4 loss on Tuesday afternoon.
Zach Smith stayed hot with a team-high three RBI but it wasn't enough as LVC (8-16) got off to another slow start; a pattern that as of late has cost the Flying Dutchmen.
DeSales (13-11) used two singles, two walks, a hit by pitch, and a Dutchmen error to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning before Colby Kulig's second inning double drove in two more to give the Bulldogs and early 4-0 lead.
LVC tried to dig itself out of the hole and appeared on track to do so when
Jonathan Harned led off the third with a single,
Phill Dohner followed it with a bunt single,
Zac Edwards moved them into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Smith drove them in with a single to center field.
Michael Puglisi cut the deficit to 4-3 when his base knock through the left side plated Smith.
But DeSales wasted little time padding its lead as the home team tacked on two runs each in the bottom of the fourth and bottom of the sixth.
Hunter Hart's RBI groundout drove in Tommy DePaul after the lead-off man singled and stole second base in the eighth.
Smith drove in his third run of the game when he doubled in the top of the ninth, scoring
Paul Smith from second base but it proved too little too late.
