Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | by Tim Flynn '05

Dutchmen Fall 11-6 at #17 Messiah

A big early lead by #17 Messiah proved to be too much to overcome despite a gritty Lebanon Valley performance in an 11-6 road loss.

The Falcons (8-3, 5-0 CC) snapped a six-game win streak for the Dutchmen (8-5, 4-1 CC) in the battle of first-place teams as they scored the game's first five goals. LVC actually outshot Messiah 21-20, but the Falcons controlled the draw and had seven saves from Alexa Dipeso.

Sam Boyce scored a hat trick and Jenny Simensky, Tori Kuntz, and Anna Pagels added LVC goals. After spotting Messiah an 8-2 lead early in the second half, LVC clawed back in with goals by Pagels, Boyce, and Simensky to cut the lead to 9-5, but two late Messiah strikes around Boyce's man-up goal shut the door on LVC's comeback hopes.

Notables
- Boyce's hat trick was her fifth in six games and ninth of the season to increase her team-leading goal total to 37 for the season.
- Messiah was limited to 15-of-24 on clears to LVC's 11-of-18. LVC led on shots (21-20) and turnovers (24-22) but Messiah had a 12-7 advantage on draw controls.
- Tori Kuntz and Laura Schmidt each had three caused turnovers, and Schmidt collected a career-high seven ground balls. Emily Moatz had a good all-around game on defense with three ground balls, a caused turnover, and three draw controls.
- It was LVC's third meeting against a ranked team this year.
Shelby Morris made four saves in the loss. Dipeso had seven stops for Messiah.
