How It HappenedThe rain held off long enough for Lebanon Valley to earn an 8-0 shutout victory over Maine-Presque Isle at McGill Field on Tuesday evening.
After pitcher
Jared McCabe sat down the Owls (2-4) in order to begin the game, the Flying Dutchmen (7-8) got the bats going with two outs in the bottom of the third.
Mike Puglisi beat out a ground ball to third base and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Frank Nietz walked, both runners swiped bags and a Maine-Presque Isle allowed
Zach Smith to reach base and Puglisi to cross home plate. Smith stole second and clean-up man
Brett Fundell drove in both Nietz and Smith with a single to right field that made it 3-0 LVC after three.
The Dutchmen upped the advantage in the fourth as
Matthew Smarkanic,
Greg Orlando,
Colin Albright, Johnathan Harned, Puglisi, Nietz, and Smith all singled, plating runners in methodical fashion to add five more before the Owls recorded the stanza's first out.
That's all Lebanon Valley would need as reliever
Michael Houseal sat the visitors down 1-2-3 in the fifth and sixth innings, ending the contest in convincing fashion before mother nature could play spoiler with dense cloud cover and incoming rain halting play.
On the Mound-
Jared McCabe (1-2) got the start and earned his first collegiate win, throwing 3.0 innings and allowing just one hit. He struck out three Owls.

Paul Smith saw an inning of relief work in the fourth, allowing no hits but surrendering two walks to go along with his lone strikeout.
Michael Houseal finished up for the Dutchmen in the final two innings, surrendering nothing and striking out two batters.
- The three Lebanon Valley hurlers combined for a one-hit, shutout and allowed just three base runners on the afternoon.
At the Plate-
Brett Fundell was a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish with a double, the game's only extra-base hit, two RBI and a walk.
