How It HappenedBailey Benz became Lebanon Valley's all-time assists leader to lead a comprehensive team win over Alvernia, 19-6, at Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen won their fourth straight game to improve to 6-4 and 2-0 in Commonwealth Conference play. Benz had five assists to go with two goals, while
Tori Kuntz netted five and
Sam Boyce scored four goals with three assists.
LVC tied a single-game record with 47 shots, and a dominating midfield performance keyed by 20 draw controls and 20 disrupted Alvernia clears gave them all the momentum despite a slow start. It took the Dutchmen nearly 10 minutes to score before Boyce hit her first, but that set off a 5-0 run as Alvernia was held to two first-half goals and LVC - led by first-half hat tricks by Boyce and Kuntz - led 8-2 at the break.
The second half continued to be all LVC as they went up by 10 at the midpoint, and the home team scored the game's final four goals to win going away.
Notables- Benz surpassed former teammate Hana Krechel '13 for the program assists record, needing four to own the record. Her five helpers takes her to 140 for her career. During the game, Benz also joined Krechel as the only two Dutchmen to reach 250 career points.
- Six Dutchmen scored two or more goals: Kuntz (5), Boyce (4),
Anna Pagels (2), Benz (2),
Jenny Simensky (2), and
Emma Jones (2). Boyce extended her multi-goal streak to nine games, and has scored four or more in each of the last three outings.
- Kuntz's five-goal outburst tied her career high, set last year against Lycoming.
- LVC's 47 shots tied the program record set just days ago at Hood. The Dutchmen have ripped off 122 shots in their last three games, averaging 37 per game in their current four-game win streak.
- Benz led a dominating midfield with five caused turnovers. LVC limited Alvernia to an 8-for-28 clear rate (3-for-16 in the first half) as Benz, Kuntz (2 CT, 4 GB),
Emma Jones (4 GB), and
Brooke Stoltzfus (2 CT, 3 FB) led the way.
- LVC's offense started with a 20-7 draw control advantage with four Dutchmen snaring four or more.
Emma Jones led the way with six, and Kuntz,
Emily Moatz, and Stoltzfus each had four.
- Boyce moved into third on the LVC points list, surpassing
Mel Modrick '14. The junior now has 181 career points.

Shelby Morris had three saves to earn the win. Alvernia starter Colleen Reilly did all she could to hold the Crusaders in the game with 16 saves. Substitute Kallie Taylor played the final 14:28 and had one stop.
