Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | by Tim Flynn '05

Dutchmen Rout Neumann, 18-2

How It Happened
Koty Keefer's five-goal, three-assist effort led Lebanon Valley in an 18-2 rout at Neumann to close out non-conference play.

LVC (4-3) held Neumann (0-5) scoreless for the final 43:40 of the game while converting five extra-man opportunities in the win. The Dutchmen outshot their opponents 59-14.

Neumann went ahead 1-0 early, and after a slow start produced first-quarter goals by Keefer and Brett Kudlak, the Knights tied it to open the second quarter. That would prove to be their final goal of the game, however, as Jeremy Beaver won 14 of 17 face-offs to help LVC's offense catch fire and reel off the next 16 tallies, starting with two second-quarter strikes from Keefer and markers by Kudlak and Klayton Garman to lead 6-2 at the break.

The third quarter put space in the game as Tristan Kalinay scored early and Kudlak, Austin Farwell, Matt Lubawski, and Keefer also hit the period. LVC produced seven fourth-quarter goals, including man-up scores for Matt Aldridge, Adam Filbert, and Grant Cox.

Notables
- Keefer's five-goal outburst marks a career-high for the freshman, who has five multi-goal games in seven starts this season. His eight-point game is the most by a Dutchman this season.
- Garman and Kyle Robins delivered two assists apiece, while Alex Bushong and Adam Filbert had two-goal games. In all, 13 different Dutchmen produced a point.
- Sophomore Austin Farwell and freshman Grant Cox picked up their first career goals, and freshman James Higginbotham handed out his first assist in the game.
- Kevin Masterson improved to 4-2 with two goals allowed and five saves in 45 minutes of play. Eric Wilcoxson and Dillon Dunn split the fourth and had a save apiece while blanking Neumann.
- Entering the game ranked fifth in the nation in face-off percentage, Jeremy Beaver had another terrific game by going 14-for-17. John Kolp was 4-for-7 in relief.
- For the fifth time this season, LVC held its opponent without a man-up goal as the Knights were 0-for-1. The Dutchmen came into the weekend ranked 11th in the nation in man-down defense and are also one of the country's least-penalized teams.
- LVC was an outstanding 22-of-23 on clearances, while holding Neumann to 17-for-24.
- Blake Weaver and Coleman Wagner led the defense with two caused turnovers each. Wagner added five ground balls, and Alex Bushong picked up a career-high six.
