How It HappenedTrailing by one run entering the top of the seventh inning, Lebanon Valley's
Liz Bauer led off with a double to right field.
Kim Ortiz-Marrero took over for Bauer on the base path and advanced to third base but the Flying Dutchmen couldn't bring her home and Cabrini held on for hard-fought 2-1 Opening Day victory in Clermont, Fla.
The Dutchmen took advantage of a Cabrini error and scored the game's first run in the top of the second.
Emily Johnson's one-out double put a runner in scoring position and Angie Harris' fly ball was misplayed by the Cavalier right fielder, allowing Johnson to plate and giving LVC an early 1-0 lead.
A leadoff walk and stolen base by Cabrini's Christine Ferraro and an ensuing Alexandria Ramos sacrifice bunt allowed the Cavaliers to draw even in the fourth inning when Kaitlyn Cooper's sac fly drove in Ferraro.
An error came back to bite the Dutchmen when Cooper's two-out ground out in the fifth proved the difference as Victoria Hall scored the eventual game-winner on what should have been the inning's final out.
Tessa Deardorff singled to lead off the sixth, stole second, and advanced to third on
Sammy Bost's bunt single. Bost moved into scoring position with a stolen base but two ground outs and a fly ball kept LVC from tying the score or regaining the lead.
Bauer's double to begin the seventh proved harmless when the Cavaliers got three-straight ground ball outs to end the game.

Tessa Deardorff and
Sammy Bost each had a hit for LVC.

Sammy Bost each swiped one bag.
- The Dutchmen made contact all game long as only one of the team's 21 outs came via strikeout.
