Rally Falls Short For W. Lax At Shenandoah

How It Happened
Shenandoah took a quick 3-0 lead before Sam Boyce score the first of her three goals late 21:28 into the game, and Emma Jones and Anna Pagels added first-half markers before SU's Cortney Gensemer hit twice in the final 2:57 of the half to give the Hornets (1-1) a 6-3 halftime lead.

Shenandoah extended its lead to 8-4 early in the second despite Boyce's goal from Jenny Simensky, but the Dutchmen rallied with gooals by Alyse Bingham and Boyce before Jones scored with 1:38 left to cut the lead to 8-7.

Pagels won the ensuing draw control but her shot went wide, and Shenandoah earned possession and hung on to win.

Notables
- It was a tale of two halves as Shenandoah led 6-3 at halftime having outshot the Dutchmen 18-7; after the break, however, LVC turned it around to outshoot the hosts 13-6 with a 4-2 scoring advantage. Shenandoah led shots 24-20 overall.
- Shelby Morris made nine saves for LVC, and Rachel Levy had a solid 10-save outing to earn the win for the Hornets.
- Transition play hurt LVC in the first half, going 5-for-10 on clears but improving to 8-for-11 after the break. SU was 15-of-19 for the game.
- Free position shooting was key as Shenandoah went 3-for-5 and LVC was 0-for-2 without an opportunity in the first half.
- Freshman Kirsten Bannan made her first career start and Megan Kastner, Nikki Lloyd, and Kristina Maleski made their collegiate debuts.
- The game was pushed back 24 hours by nearly a foot of snow that fell in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, but players enjoyed clear skies and balmy game-time temperatures in the upper 40s.

Stat of the Game
6 - Ground balls collected by senior defender Morgan Heller, a career high. She added two caused turnovers.

Next Time
LVC will made its 2015 home debut Wednesday against Dickinson at 4:30 p.m.
