How It HappenedFREDERICK, Md. – Lebanon Valley held Hood to its lowest score of the season, as the Dutchmen cruised past the Blazers 57-38 on Saturday afternoon in women's basketball MAC Commonwealth action. The win propelled LVC's record to 7-2, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth, while Hood fell to 4-6, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth.
The Dutchmen started the game on fire and led 11-4 with 2:51 to go in the first quarter. After the Blazers cut the lead to five at 13-8 with 45 seconds remaining,
Kiely Chaklos sank a 3-pointer to increase the lead to eight, the Dutchmen's biggest of the first. LVC led 16-10 after first-quarter action.
In the second quarter, the Dutchmen's stout defense held Hood to just seven points. LVC's largest advantage of the quarter came when
Lauren Derby connected on a layup to put the Dutchmen up by 12 at 28-16. Despite a Hood free throw to close out the half, the Dutchmen controlled the Blazers and led 28-17 at halftime.
LVC's defense continued to shine in the third quarter and held the Blazers to just eight points. A jumper by
Taylor Umbrell with 1:22 remaining in the third gave the Dutchmen their largest lead of the contest to that point at 42-25. In the fourth quarter, LVC reached its largest lead of the game on several occasions, with the final 23-point advantage coming with 4:14 to go in the game when
Anne Lehr made a layup to make the score 54-31. LVC cruised throughout the quarter and went on to win 57-38.
Inside the Numbers - Umbrell filled out the stat sheet for the Dutchmen with 11 points and eight rebounds, while adding three steals a block.
