McDaniel def. Lebanon Valley 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-17)
Lebanon Valley fell to Swarthmore (3-2) and McDaniel (3-0) in a tri-match hosted by McDaniel in Westminster, Md. on Saturday. The Dutchmen's overall record fell to 14-8.
How It Happened Against SwarthmoreIn the opening set, LVC scored the first point of the game off an
Amber Deshong kill, however the Garnet scored the next eight points to take an 8-1 lead. The Dutchmen battled back and came to within two points at 9-7, and later stayed within striking distance, down just five at 19-14, but Swarthmore held off LVC and took the first set.
The second set was close for the most part, as LVC led 12-9. After
Greta Weidemoyer notched a kill to make it 18-16, the Garnet scored three consecutive points to take a 19-18 advantage. Down 24-20, a Swarthmore attack error made it 24-21 and an
Abbey Barnhart kill brought the Dutchmen to within two at 24-22, but the Garnet finished off LVC 25-22 and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Dutchmen did not go away quietly, however, and lead 20-17 in the third set. LVC then rattled off five consecutive points – a Swarthmore service error and then four straight kills – and took the third set 25-17.
LVC was ahead 11-5 in the fourth set, but a 10-4 by the Garnet tied the set at 15-15. Down 22-20, the Dutchmen scored three straight points, capped off by an
Emily Sides service ace, to take a 23-22 lead. After Swarthmore tied it at 23-23, Weidemoyer notched two kills in a row as LVC took the fourth set 25-23 to force a fifth set.
In a tight fifth set,
Rachel Moltz ripped a kill that tied the set at 10-10. After the Dutchmen went up 11-0, the Garnet scored four straight points for the 14-11 advantage and took the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
Stats Against Swarthmore Weidemoyer paced the Dutchmen with 20 kills and Deshong added 14 and
Chloe McCarty chipped in eight. Weidemoyer added four blocks and All Quirk had three, while Moltz racked up 41 assists and
Allie Garrett dug out 25 balls and Moltz tallied 21 digs.
How It Happened Against McDanielThe opening set was very close and back-and-forth, as the Dutchmen were ahead 14-12, but the Green Terror connected on five straight to overtake LVC 17-14. The Dutchmen answered with four consecutive points of their own to take a slight 18-17 advantage. With the score tied at 25-25, McDaniel was able to score two in a row and take the exciting first set at 27-25.
In the second and third sets, the Green Terror was able to open up late leads and won both sets to take the match at 3-0.
Stats Against McDanielDeshong ended up with 11 kills, while Moltz assisted on 22 more points and Garrett (14), Sides (11), and Barnhart (11) were all in double digits in digs.
Notable PerformanceMoltz had a total of 63 assists in two matches this afternoon and leads the team in total assists this season with 562.
