OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lebanon Valley nearly handed Stevenson the team's first Commonwealth Conference loss of the year but a 7-0 run in the final 1:52 erased a one-point deficit and propelled the Mustangs to their 12th-straight win; a 64-58 victory over the Flying Dutchmen on Thursday night.
Taylor Umbrell led the way for LVC with 18 points and seven rebounds while
Bridget Rothert netted 16 and dished-out a team-best nine assists.
Rachel Kelly grabbed eight boards and added six points in her second start of the season.
Umbrell's late-game jumper from the right corner put Lebanon Valley (11-5, 3-5 CC) ahead 58-57 with 1:52 left to play. The Dutchmen got off just one shot and committed four turnovers the rest of the way.
Leading 32-28 at the break, LVC saw the Mustangs (14-2, 8-0 CC) begin the second half on an 8-2 run that gave the home team a 36-34 lead at the 18:05 mark. Umbrell's three-pointer and ensuing Rothert fast break layup put the Dutchmen back out in front less than a minute later. From there, the squads traded the lead five more times.
Trailing by as many as seven with 10:52 remaining, Lebanon Valley used a 10-0 run capped by Rothert's old-fashioned three-point play to jump back in front with 7:18 to go. After a pair of Kyarra Harmon free throws put Stevenson ahead 57-56, both teams went scoreless the next four minutes.
Umbrell's corner jump shot only temporarily broke up LVC's drought as the Dutchmen converted just one field goal in the final 7:17.
Lebanon Valley got to the charity stripe just seven times on the night and converted just four attempts compared to the Mustangs 14-18 shooting from the foul line. LVC won the rebounding battle 44-34 but committed nine more turnovers than Stevenson (26-17).
Kaitlyn Van Tash and
Lexie Lantz scored four points apiece while Lantz,
Alyssa Cirucci, and
Alex Lehman pulled in five rebounds each.
