Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. - #17 Misericordia proved to be tough, scoring four second-half goals to spoil Lebanon Valley's home opener in a 6-0 game.
The Dutchmen (1-1) were playing the first home game of the year in any sport at LVC, but the Cougars (2-0) crashed the party with 18 shots on a warm day at Herbert Field.
Erin McGreal started the scoring at 8:53 with a run into the box, and Amber Hartranft scored the first of of her two goals with a penalty kick conversion at 18:17.
The score stayed 2-0 through halftime until Hartranft struck again, taking Megan Lannigan's cross from the left, and Jacqueline Stevens bent a free kick over the wall and in at 74:34. Misericordia scored twice in the final six minutes, with Alex Gallagher finishing a breakaway sprung by Kylen Smith, and Sarah Buchanan tallying three seconds from time.
Despite being outshot 18-3, LVC was not without its chances; Laura Zimmerman had a one-time volley blocked directly in front of goal, and a dangerous set piece outside the box by
Kristin Robeson was snagged by goalkeeper Maureen Ciccosanti. LVC's best chance came in the 73rd minute when
Sammy Bost slotted a ball in for
Amanda Douglass, who lost a 50/50 battle with Ciccosanti with no one else to beat.
Taylor Reinhold (1-1) made seven saves for the Dutchmen. Ciccosanti made a save in 78 minutes of play to earn the win, with Alyssa Pojero playing 12 minutes of relief. Corners were an even 3-3.
LVC will head to northeast Pennsylvania this weekend for games at Marywood on Saturday and Scranton on Sunday.
