SCRANTON, Pa. – Lebanon Valley was shut out by Marywood on Saturday afternoon, Sep. 27, falling 4-0 to the Pacers in the team's last non-conference matchup of the fall. Despite getting off more shots on goal than the home team (6-4), the Flying Dutchmen were unable to find the back of the net.
Marywood's Hull brothers, Daniel and Matthew, were the difference in this one as Daniel netted two first half goals and Matthew added a third, all in the game's first 16 minutes. LVC spent the rest of the half trying to play catch up. Unfortunately, the score that may have turned the tide for the Dutchmen never materialized.
Daniel Hull's first score came in the eighth minute off an assist by Dylan McMahon and his second came in the form of a breakaway less than three minutes later in the tenth. Matthew Hull picked off an attempted LVC clearance ball and took advantage of the mistake by netting the Pacers' third score in the 15th minute.
Marywood's advantage held until halftime and after the break the Pacers added to their lead when McMahon got into the scoring act himself. He beat two Dutchmen defenders and fired his attempt into the left corner of LVC net in the 56th minute.
Senior
Kevin Doty led Lebanon Valley with two shots on goal and a third attempt was blocked by the Pacer defense. Freshmen
Tyler Skye and
Austin Freeman, senior Jordan Fergusson, and sophomore
John McHale all managed to get off attempts that were on target but Marywood goalkeeper Justin Sunseri turned away all comers.
LVC is still looking for consistency on the offensive end as Saturday's loss was the Dutchmen's fifth shutout defeat of the season. Lebanon Valley will look to reverse that trend and get back to their winning ways when they host Albright in their 2014 Commonwealth Conference opener on Wednesday evening, Oct. 8. Kickoff at Herbert Field is set for 4 p.m.
