Field Hockey Opens With Win Over Cabrini

Box Score MADISON, N.J. - Lebanon Valley bounced back from an early deficit to win its season opener, 3-2, against Cabrini at the Drew Fall Festival.

The Dutchmen (1-0) received a pair of goals from Lyndee Sheaffer and the eventual game-winner by Kristen Garman as they swung a 1-0 lead by the Cavaliers (1-1) into a 3-1 lead midway through the second half. LVC dominated the flow of the game with leads in shots (9-5) and penalty corners (16-3), but had to hold off a late Cavaliers surge that cut the lead to a goal. Kendra Moll made one save to earn her first career win in cage.

Cabrini's Karlie Gruccio scored five minutes into the game on a finish to Danielle Palatano's feed, but Sheaffer equalized at 15:30 when she created space off the ball and beat goalkeeper Taylor Bookman to the left. Sheaffer then gave LVC the lead just over a minute into the second half, taking advantage of Bookman's mis-kick to score.

Taylor Carroll scored a late goal from Palatano to cut LVC's lead to 3-2 at 65:25, but the Dutchmen held onto their lead for the win, repelling a late corner.

The Dutchmen will take on the hosts, Drew, Sunday at noon.
