Box Score 2 CORTLAND, N.Y. - Lebanon Valley started its season off on the right foot, taking a pair of wins over Medaille and Nazareth at the Cortland Red Dragon Tournament.
LVC (2-0) cruised by Medaille 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-15) in the evening's opening match before grinding out a 3-1 (25-16, 25-12, 22-25, 25-22) victory against defending Empire 8 champion and 2013 NCAA qualifier Nazareth.
The Dutchmen did it all in the first match led by a career-high 15 kills from
Taylor Troutman and
Greta Weidemoyer's nine swings. Freshman
Abbey Barnhart threw down five kills with no errors, and the front line blocked very well with 10 assist blocks across three sets.
Defensively,
Kacey Musselman and
Allie Garrett led the way with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
The defense carried LVC again against Nazareth with 8.0 total blocks, led by Allie Quirk's one solo and four assisted stuffs. Weidemoyer ended with 17 kills to lead all hitters, with Quirk (8),
Emily Sides (7), and
Kayla Confer (7) adding to the offense as Garrett led at the back with 13 digs.
Lebanon Valley finishes the weekend Saturday against the hosts, SUNY Cortland, at 11 a.m. and Richard Stockton at 1:30 p.m.
